That link takes me to a Daily Planet clip about volcanos. Is anyone else able to get to the right clip?

I saw that when it aired... I loved the look on his face and his overall reaction when they set the Salute went off at the beginning of the segment.  big_smile

There seems to be parts 1 through 4 on Youtube but the episode is cut off - there should be at least a part 5. Has anybody seen the ending - I assume they let Mike load and fire this thing off?   smile

I've bought the episode on iTunes Music Store (only 2$  big_smile) just to see the end !

They load the 12" shell they've been making and set it off, but they don't know that there's fog, so they don't see the explosion clearly.

Therefore, they decide to leave the cameras to the guy so he can film a similar bomb going off when the weather is more clement. He also adds a few salutes for good measure, then he fires the 12" one.

Is it me or setting off a 5" salute with a lighter and going back a few feets doesn't seem very safe ? Here in Canada, I believe that salutes must be fired electrically and the mortars placed behind a barricade of some sorts. The U.S. seems to be more lax on this ?!

I don't know of any 5" Salutes that are approved in Canada. (That's not saying there never was any in the country).

Re: The Discovery Channels "Dirty Jobs: Little Big Shots"

I remember back in the day (10 years ago) hand firing 4" salutes. I think I remember 5" salutes, but I'm not 100%.

The U.S. is very lax on their rules and regulations for fireworks. I went to PGI in 2003 and guys were handfiring HUGE 6" salutes with little protection. Most states don't even require and form of personally licensing for an individual. A company will have a license, but it doesn't mean the guy shooting the show will be trained adequately. Crazy!
